5th Conference of EU Vegetable Processing Industry 20th April 2007_12.03.2007

OEITFL, the trade association of the EU’s fruit and vegetable processing industries, is very pleased to announce the 5th Conference of European Vegetable Processors to be held in Brussels on Friday 20th April 2007.

The title of this year’s event “The Challenge of raw material supply faced by the EU’s vegetable processing industry” is no coincidence in view of the difficult economic conditions the industry has to cope with:

  • exceptionally high cereal prices linked to the price increase of wheat,
  • this year’s increase in raw material prices,
  • ever-increasing environment obligations for farmers,
  • and competition from third country imports,

further aggravated by:

  • increased incentives for crops grown for biofuels
  • more lucrative conditions in the context of the CAP for farmers to switch to other crops rather than to continue growing vegetables for the processing industry.

As a result, the EU canners and freezers of vegetables and sweet corn are seriously concerned about their raw material supply in the medium to long term future, and the potential impact of the present price trends on the industry’s competitiveness.

The conference will furthermore provide key market figures for the sector and up-date participants on current trends. It provides thus for an ideal forum for business delegates from all over Europe to make contacts and to discuss the main concerns of the sector.
