2009 CONFERENCE of Vegetable Processors: Sustainability for Future Generations_4.05.2009
Report on the 6th Conference of European Vegetables Processors - Brussels - 24 April 2009
This year’s conference of the canned and frozen vegetable industries inside OEITFL was dedicated to the subject of sustainability. With 170 participants from 12 different EU countries, the 6th Conference saw again a very good attendance.
After a welcome address from the cabinet of Belgian Federal Minister for Agriculture Sabine Laruelle and the presentation of some key figures and trends, session one was dedicated to new EU legislation for plant protection products and sustainability obligations, and their impact on the industry. Presentations also covered new EU projects to promote the quality of agricultural products, and a follow-up on national generic promotion activities.
Session two, which included a panel discussion, gave an overview on existing initiatives for carbon footprint labelling for foods, and provided the view from within the industry and from a retailer’s perspective.
The feedback received via the questionnaires was very positive, as was the overall echo to the presentations. 95% of the people who answered would like to attend future conferences and 82% gave a positive rating to the overall conference (of which 48% judged “very good”). Apart from the information on latest developments in the area of pesticide legislation and carbon footprint labelling, delegates appreciated the conference as a platform to exchange views, renew existing contacts and make new business contacts.
Hereunder you find the presentations & photos of the event.
